A Manchester United supporters’ group, The 1958, has issued a strong call for reform, urging the club’s leadership to implement wide-ranging changes in how the club is run.
The group staged a protest on matchday ahead of United’s Premier League fixture against Fulham at Old Trafford, voicing concerns over governance, fan culture and rising costs for supporters.
Speaking to The Sun, protest organiser Steve Crompton said the core of the movement is centred on restoring the experience of match-going fans and preserving the club’s traditional identity. He argued that long-standing supporter groups, including the Red Army, have gradually been marginalised, describing the situation as unacceptable.
Crompton also criticised ticket pricing, claiming regular fans are being priced out while premium hospitality packages remain readily available at steep costs. According to him, this shift threatens the culture that once defined Manchester United’s home support.
The group further expressed frustration with frequent managerial changes, warning that the financial consequences are often passed on to supporters. Crompton added that the club’s hierarchy must either adjust its approach or begin listening more closely to fan concerns.
He also questioned whether recent ownership promises—particularly pledges to restore the club’s local identity—have been honoured, insisting that matchday supporters have seen little benefit so far.
