Manchester United have stepped up their defensive scouting as Sassuolo centre-back Tarik Muharemovic emerges as a potential long-term target.

A United representative was in attendance during Sassuolo’s recent 1-0 victory over Cremonese to assess the Bosnian international’s performance. The match also marked a personal milestone for Muharemovic, who made his 50th competitive appearance for the Italian club.

Reports from Bosnia outlet Sportsport suggest the Premier League side are considering the 22-year-old as a possible replacement for Harry Maguire. The England defender is approaching the final stages of his current contract, with uncertainty surrounding a possible extension.

Muharemovic, however, remains under long-term commitment at Sassuolo, having signed a deal that runs until 2031.
