Chido Obi set to join Willem II on season-long loan
 

Manchester United striker Chido Obi is set to leave the club temporarily, with a loan move to Dutch side Willem II now agreed.

The 18-year-old was left out of Manchester United’s Under-21 squad for Monday evening’s match against Leicester, a decision that comes as the club prepares for his departure.

Obi had attracted interest from Feyenoord, but Willem II now appears to have won the race for his signature. The transfer can still be completed despite the closure of the English window, with the Dutch transfer window remaining open until September 2.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the move has been completed, with United approving a medical for the teenager.

“Chido Obi from Manchester United to Willem II, here we go! Deal done for the striker to join Dutch side on season long loan,” Romano reported on Wednesday. “MUFC authorize medical taking place today. No buy option clause included, loan move until the end of the season.”

Obi is expected to spend the season in the Netherlands as he looks for regular first-team football and valuable senior experience.

The striker joined Manchester United’s youth setup from Arsenal and made his first-team debut less than a year after arriving at the club. However, increased competition and the club’s summer midfield additions have made opportunities for younger players more difficult to secure.
