Brazilian football icon Ronaldinho is set for a sensational return to the game after agreeing to join Italian Serie C club Ravenna, bringing an end to more than a decade away from competitive football.
According to reports from Gazzetta, the former Barcelona star will be officially presented by the club during a special event scheduled to take place in Miami on June 23. However, it remains uncertain whether the 46-year-old will feature in competitive matches during the upcoming season.
Speaking after the move was confirmed, Ronaldinho expressed excitement about beginning a new chapter with the Italian club.
“New colours, same smile,” Ronaldinho said.
“I can’t wait to be able to dance on the ball again to write a new story together with Ignazio and the whole Cipriani family. Football has always been a source of joy for me, I want to bring the same spirit to Ravenna.”
The former FIFA World Player of the Year retired from professional football after a brief spell with Fluminense in 2015 and has not played competitively since then. His return marks one of the most unexpected developments of the transfer window.
Ravenna owner Ignazio Cipriani admitted that signing Ronaldinho is a dream come true, revealing that the Brazilian legend inspired him during his younger years.
“He was my idol growing up, and his impact on the game extends far beyond football.
“Beyond what he brings to the club, I hope his involvement inspires a new generation of supporters to fall in love with Ravenna FC and become part of what we’re building for the future.”
Ronaldinho now joins a distinguished list of football stars who have represented Ravenna, including former Italy internationals Christian Vieri, Fabio Cannavaro, Alberto Gilardino and Vincenzo Montella, further enhancing the club's rich football heritage.
Is this a good decision by Ronaldinho?
