Nigeria’s Super Eagles have boosted their tournament earnings after booking a place in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

By advancing to the last eight, the national team is assured of a $1.3 million prize from the Confederation of African Football (CAF)—a sum that translates to close to ₦2 billion at prevailing exchange rates, highlighting the growing financial stakes of Africa’s flagship football competition.

CAF, in details published on its official platform, confirmed an enhanced prize-money framework for the tournament. The eventual champion of AFCON 2025 will take home $7 million, while the finalist will receive $4 million. The two semifinalists who fail to reach the final are set to earn $2.5 million each, with all quarterfinalists guaranteed $1.3 million.

Beyond the base prize, the Super Eagles also benefited from performance-based incentives linked to goals scored in their round-of-16 clash. Each goal attracted a bonus of $10,000, further increasing the team’s financial haul.

Nigeria netted four goals in the encounter, with Victor Osimhen scoring twice, while Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams also found the back of the net. The goals added an extra $40,000, estimated at about ₦57 million, to the team’s earnings.

Attention now shifts to Tuesday’s fixture between Algeria and DR Congo, which will determine Nigeria’s opponent in the quarterfinals.
