Former Manchester United star and Champions League winner, Rio Ferdinand, has hailed Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal as the most outstanding footballer in the world right now.

The 17-year-old delivered a brilliant performance, including a crucial goal, during Barcelona’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Inter Milan in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal on Tuesday night.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) after the match, Ferdinand wrote:

"As a pure football talent, I would go as far as to say that Lamine Yamal is operating on a different level compared to any other player currently active in the top five leagues.

17 years old – simply unbelievable."

Serving as a pundit for TNT Sports, Ferdinand further praised the youngster’s composure and impact on the big stage:

"This kid is making a mockery of the game. He’s taking liberties at the highest level," he said.

"Every time Barcelona looks to break through, their first option is their youngest player. Watching him from close range tonight was mesmerizing — the way he touched the ball, influenced the play, and lit up the stadium. It was truly special to witness."
