The stage is set for the ECOWAS African Traditional Wrestling Tournament as the highly anticipated competition begins today at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

A total of 55 wrestlers from 11 countries will compete for supremacy, with each nation represented by five athletes and four technical officials.

The opening ceremony, scheduled for 12 noon on Thursday, March 6, 2025, promises a vibrant display of culture and athleticism, drawing attention to Nigeria as the host nation. Notable dignitaries expected to grace the event include the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Malam Shehu Dikko, and the Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, alongside other top officials.

This year's tournament marks a historic milestone with the introduction of female wrestlers for the first time, underscoring the growing inclusivity of African traditional wrestling.

Coinciding with ECOWAS' 50th anniversary, organizers are dedicated to delivering an exceptional edition, ensuring a memorable and well-executed event for athletes, officials, and spectators alike.
