Lookman

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has expressed confidence in Ademola Lookman's ability to overcome his recent struggles, urging the Nigerian international not to lose belief as he battles to regain his place in the Spanish side.

Lookman has found it difficult to maintain the impressive form he displayed last season, with his involvement in Atletico's matches declining in recent weeks.

The 28-year-old was handed just 14 minutes of action in Atletico Madrid's 2-0 victory over Levante on Saturday, further highlighting his reduced role in the team.

However, Simeone has made it clear that he remains confident in the forward's quality and believes he can work his way through the challenging period.

Speaking ahead of Atletico's UEFA Champions League encounter with Bayern Munich, the Argentine tactician encouraged Lookman to remain patient, continue working hard and avoid becoming frustrated by his current situation.

“I have a lot of faith in him. I don’t want him to get frustrated because he’s not going through his best moment, because it’s part of life, part of the game, part of football,” Simeone told reporters.

Simeone's public show of confidence could provide a timely boost for Lookman as he seeks to rediscover his attacking influence and convince the Atletico coaching staff that he deserves a more prominent role.

For the Nigerian forward, the immediate challenge is to translate his manager's backing into improved performances, particularly as Atletico face a demanding Champions League assignment against Bayern Munich.
