Preparations are gathering momentum in Abuja ahead of the 2026 PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon, with organisers intensifying efforts to deliver an international-standard event as the countdown reaches 13 days.

Organised by Nilayo Sports Management Limited, the annual road race is expected to attract elite athletes, recreational runners, fitness enthusiasts, corporate organisations and families from across Nigeria and beyond.

The event has continued to establish itself as one of Nigeria's prominent road racing competitions, combining athletics with entertainment, fitness promotion and sports tourism.

Beyond the competitive aspect, the marathon is designed to position Abuja as a destination for sporting events while encouraging healthy lifestyles, youth participation and national unity.

Over the years, the competition has evolved beyond a conventional road race into a platform that brings together people from different backgrounds through sports and physical activity. Its growing profile has also created opportunities to showcase the Federal Capital Territory's tourism, hospitality and business potential.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nilayo Sports Management Limited, Mrs Yetunde Olopade, has expressed confidence that the forthcoming edition will build on previous successes while maintaining international standards.

"We are focused on athlete welfare, world-class logistics, medical support, security and a memorable experience for runners, volunteers, spectators and partners. This year's race will be bigger, better and more immersive for everyone."

According to the organisers, the 2026 edition will feature improved route management, entertainment zones along the course, enhanced medical and security arrangements, as well as a more engaging experience for spectators.

The event is also expected to generate economic opportunities for businesses in Abuja, particularly within the hospitality, tourism and creative industries, as participants and visitors converge on the capital for the competition.

From the starting point to the finish line, the marathon is expected to transform the city's streets into a celebration of athleticism, fitness and community participation.

For elite runners, the competition offers an opportunity to compete for podium positions and personal records, while recreational participants and first-time runners can use the event as a platform to embrace healthier lifestyles.

With just 13 days remaining, attention is turning to Abuja as the city prepares to host another edition of the PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon, an event that seeks to strengthen Nigeria's position on the international road racing calendar.
