Everton have strengthened their squad ahead of the new season after completing the permanent signing of winger Tyrique George from Chelsea, following his loan spell at the club last term.

The 20-year-old impressed enough during his time at the Merseyside side to convince Everton to make the move permanent, despite limited opportunities in the latter stages of the campaign under manager David Moyes.

George initially joined Everton on loan during the second half of last season after finding first-team opportunities difficult to come by at Chelsea. Although he featured in 11 matches and made only one start, the club remained convinced of his long-term potential.

The original loan agreement reportedly contained a £25 million purchase option. However, Everton successfully negotiated a lower transfer fee believed to be around £18 million, with performance-related add-ons capable of taking the total value of the deal to £24 million.

His arrival marks Everton's third signing of the summer transfer window. The club has already strengthened its squad with the additions of Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough and Merlin Rohl, whose move from Freiburg has now been made permanent after his loan spell.

Reacting after signing his contract, George expressed his delight at returning to the club on a permanent basis.

"I’m so happy to sign for Everton. I loved my time here on loan last season, so as soon as I knew it was a possibility to return, that's always what I wanted," he said.

Describing Everton as a club with a passionate fan base, the winger said he is eager to contribute with goals, assists and strong performances to reward the supporters.

George also praised the reception he received from teammates and fans during his loan spell, adding that the welcoming atmosphere made the decision to return an easy one.

"The fans and the boys in the changing room made me feel welcome as soon as I arrived in February. It's a strong group that's only going to get better. I'm excited for what is ahead for us as a group and club," he added.
