Online registration has commenced for the fifth edition of Cycling Lagos, as organizers intensify preparations for the annual cycling event, which will culminate in a grand finale on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Making the announcement in Lagos, the Convener of Cycling Lagos and Managing Director of BrandEscort Communications, Bamidele Adeleye, invited cyclists from Nigeria and other countries to register early through the event's official online platform to secure participation in what he described as one of Africa's largest cycling festivals.

Adeleye explained that intending participants can complete their registration by scanning the QR code displayed on the event flyer or by visiting the official website, www.cyclinglagos.com. He disclosed that the registration portal became active on July 1, 2026, and will remain open until August 26, 2026.

"The registration process has been designed to make participation seamless, enabling riders to register conveniently from anywhere while ensuring efficient planning, accreditation, and event logistics," he said.

He noted that this year's competition will feature multiple categories, including professional and amateur cyclists, children, celebrities, and recreational riders, providing opportunities for participants of different skill levels while advancing the objectives of healthy living, environmental sustainability, road safety, and sports tourism.

Speaking on the theme for the 2026 edition, 'Trash to Treasure,' Adeleye said it is intended to stimulate discussions on transforming waste into valuable resources, converting challenges into opportunities, and giving discarded materials new purpose.

"The theme also reflects the Cycling Lagos story—an event that began with modest public interest in 2018 but has grown into a movement that continues to inspire similar cycling initiatives across Nigeria and Africa.

"Today, Cycling Lagos has become a reference point for cycling events, demonstrating how one powerful idea can transform communities, inspire healthier lifestyles, and encourage environmental consciousness.

"When we started this event in 2018, there were very few major cycling events in Nigeria, and cycling culture was relatively low. Through consistent advocacy over the years, the story has changed significantly. More people are embracing cycling, and more events are springing up across the country," he said.

 

Adeleye further stated that the initiative's success contributed to the launch of Cycling Kano in collaboration with the Kano State Government in 2025, describing it as the first major cycling event of its kind in Northern Nigeria.

He added that Cycling Lagos has recorded steady growth over its previous four editions, drawing thousands of cyclists and spectators while reinforcing Lagos' reputation as a preferred destination for sports tourism on the African continent.

He also appealed to corporate organisations, government institutions, development partners, cycling clubs, enthusiasts, and the general public to support the initiative and actively participate in the event, noting that it continues to champion healthier lifestyles, youth empowerment, environmental responsibility, and active mobility through cycling.
