Whenever headlines break with reports of disturbing atrocities, one name too often echoes with concern, Ogun State.

Once celebrated for its rich cultural heritage and industrious spirit, Ogun State has in recent times faced growing challenges, including the rise of ritual activities, cultism, armed robbery, and cybercrime. Communities such as Akute have not been spared from this troubling trend.

At the core of this crisis lies a critical issue, youth idleness. A generation of young people, disconnected, unengaged, and uninspired, are increasingly vulnerable to negative influences. As the age-old saying goes, “an idle mind is the devil’s workshop.”

However, amidst these challenges, a beacon of hope is emerging.

Glory Impact Christian Centre (GICC) has continued to demonstrate unwavering commitment to community transformation through impactful initiatives. The Resident Pastor of the church, Pastor Olusegun Ajayi said some of the iniatives the church have created  include scholarship awards for indigent children, welfare support for widows, youth and women empowerment programs through Gracelink Mentorship, the This is My Reality Talk Show, and engaging sporting activities such as table tennis championships, chess, and draft contests.

In his words: "GICC is organising the second edition of the Bisi Afolayan Cup as a  bold and strategic move to further address youth engagement and community development"

"The maiden edition of the tournament was a resounding success, featuring 16 competitive teams and drawing widespread participation and support. It showcased not only football excellence but also unity, discipline, and community spirit, leaving lasting memories and heightened anticipation for its return" . Pastor Ajayi said.

This year’s edition, scheduled to hold from July 25th to August 1st, 2026, promises to be bigger, more competitive, and more impactful. Beyond football, the event will feature a variety of games including Ayo, Ludo, Scrabble, and Snooker, creating an inclusive platform for broader community participation.

The Bisi Afolayan Cup is more than a tournament, it is a movement to redirect energy, inspire purpose, and restore hope among young people.

To successfully deliver this vision, GICC is calling on individuals, organizations, and stakeholders to partner through sponsorship, resources, and goodwill support.

Together, we can do more than organize a tournament.

Together, we can inspire change.

Together, we can win more than trophies, we can win lives.
