Forgotten Tottenham defender Kota Takai has left on loan to join Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach on loan.

The Japan international is yet to make a first-team appearance since his £5M move from Kawasaki Frontale which was a record sale for the J-League.

The 21-year-old has dealt with separate foot and knee injuries since the summer, restricting his time on the training pitch. However, he is now back to full fitness and will try to prove his worth in the German first division.

Takei has reportedly joined up with Monchengladbach’s warm-weather winter training camp in Belek, Turkey, and is expected to train with his new team-mates for the first time on Friday afternoon.

Fellow Spurs central defender Luka Vuskovic has shined whilst on loan for Hamburg, and Takei could be the next player to show that he can lead a side abroad as manager Thomas Frank looks on.

"Kota is a tall, physically strong centre-half who also has good pace," Borussia's Head of Sports Rouven Schroder said. "He's got what it takes to help us in the immediate future. We’re delighted to welcome our new number 14."

Monchengladbach’s next game is on January 11th against Augsburg and Takei could make his debut for the German side, who sit 12th in the Bundesliga under manager Eugen Polanski.
