Nasarawa United have climbed back to the top of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) standings after a convincing 3–0 triumph over El-Kanemi Warriors in their match-day fourteen clash at the Lafia City Stadium on Sunday evening.

Last season’s leading scorer, Anas Yusuf, broke the deadlock in the 38th minute from the penalty spot, giving the Solid Miners a deserved 1–0 lead heading into halftime.

Barely a minute into the second half, Yusuf capitalised on a defensive lapse to double the hosts’ advantage—his sixth goal of the campaign for the Lafia-based side.

Young forward Garba Mohammed put the result beyond doubt with a composed finish, registering his third goal of the season and sealing the 3–0 win for Nasarawa United. The victory lifts the Solid Miners to the top of the log with 27 points from 14 matches, three points clear of second-placed Ikorodu City, who still have a game in hand.

Nasarawa United will travel to Ozoro, Delta State, next weekend for their next league fixture against Warri Wolves, who currently sit eighth on the table.

 Post-Match Reactions

Mangut Mbwas (Head Coach, Nasarawa United):
“I’m very delighted. We approached today’s game with a different strategy, and I’m happy it paid off with multiple goals.
I must commend El-Kanemi Warriors because they also had their moments and created chances.
Our next trip to Warri Wolves is a long journey, but we’ll go into it with confidence and high expectations.”

Kabiru Dogo (Head Coach, El-Kanemi Warriors):
“It was a difficult match for us. Congratulations to Nasarawa United—they deserved the win because they were clearly the better team today.
They punished three errors made by one of our key players, but that’s football.
The league is a marathon. We’ll correct our mistakes and keep pushing despite the tiring road trips.”

Anas Yusuf (Brace Scorer, Nasarawa United):
“I’m very happy to score two goals today.
We want to maintain this momentum going forward.
Right now, my focus is to help Nasarawa United challenge for the title and secure a continental spot.
I appreciate our amazing supporters—we’ll continue to work hard to repay their faith.”
