Below are the new set of rules for goalkeeping. Read through and enjoy yourself as you learn more about changes in the world of football
The goalkeeper
may not keep the ball for more than 8 seconds; otherwise, a corner kick is
awarded to the opposing team.
The countdown
begins when the goalkeeper gains control of the ball, with a countdown to the
final (5) seconds.
If the
opponent puts pressure on the goalkeeper during the countdown, the referee
stops the countdown and awards an indirect free kick to the goalkeeper.
Referees must
penalize players who attempt to manipulate the countdown or visibly put
pressure on the referee.
Purpose of
the rule: To increase actual playing time and reduce intentional time-wasting
by goalkeepers, to promote more dynamic football.
