With just a few days to go until the highly anticipated Lagos Campus Beach Soccer Championship, excitement is already building among football enthusiasts who are speculating on which team will take home the gold medal.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Atican Beach, Lekki, Lagos, and will feature no fewer than ten top higher institutions from across Lagos State. These include the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Lagos State University (LASU), Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), among others.
Many believe that the trophy will likely go to one of the traditionally dominant institutions—UNILAG, LASU, or YABATECH—due to their past experience in major sporting events and their well-established sports facilities.
However, others argue that football success often goes beyond experience. They point to the raw talent in institutions such as the Lagos State University of Science and Technology and the Lagos State University of Education, suggesting that these schools could be potential dark horses in the tournament.
While speculations continue, the Lagos State Football Association remains focused on a broader goal: discovering new football talent to support the growth of the sport in both the state and Nigeria at large.
Organized by the Lagos State Government in collaboration with BrandEscort Communications, the event is designed to scout and showcase young football talents from higher institutions across the state.
Participating institutions include the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Lagos State University (LASU), Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Lagos State University of Education, Federal College of Education Technical, Lagos State College of Nursing, and others
As the countdown begins, all eyes are on the sandy pitch of Atican Beach in Lekki, where the next generation of football stars may emerge.
