Jhon Duran |
Arsenal are reportedly preparing a significant offer for Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran, with a potential bid exceeding £75 million, as manager Mikel Arteta seeks to bolster his attacking options. The Gunners are looking to lure the Colombian forward from their Premier League rivals.
On Saturday, Arsenal's forwards, including Kai Havertz
and Gabriel Jesus, struggled to make an impact in a surprising 2-0 defeat to
Bournemouth, which ended the team’s unbeaten run and dealt a blow to their
title aspirations. The duo also failed to score in Tuesday’s draw against
Shakhtar Donetsk.
According to AS, Arsenal is keen to sign another No. 9,
with Duran emerging as their top target following his impressive form this
season, netting 7 goals in just 12 appearances. Despite recently signing a
contract extension keeping him at Villa until June 2030, the 20-year-old has
seen limited playing time under manager Unai Emery, who often uses him as a
substitute rather than in the starting lineup.
AS further reports that Villa will not consider any
offers below £75 million for Duran. Should Arsenal proceed with the deal, Duran
would become the club's second-most expensive signing, trailing only the £105
million they paid for Declan Rice in 2023.
